Ekoneko

A short walk from Nerima Station, behind the door of a building, is えこねこ, a rescue cat café where curious cats come to greet you. The floor is kept clean, and many of the cats are comfortable around people. Some quietly come closer and climb onto a visitor’s lap; others bring over a favourite cat wand to ask for play. Their easygoing charm makes the welcome feel very much on their own terms.

The cats’ moods can also vary with the time of day. In the middle of the afternoon, after eating, they may be dozing, making for a quiet scene to watch. Around evening, they wake up and become more active, and visitors can see them playing with toys. Later in the day, there may also be a chance to give the cats treats and enjoy the lively scene as they gather in their own way.

A drinks dispenser is available on the floor, where visitors can take a break with a drink and browse cat-related magazines. Advance reservations are accepted, and drop-ins are possible when space is available. It can suit a solo visit, too: a place to unwind at an easy pace in the company of the cats.
